THIS ARTIST’S PATH CONTINUES TO UNFOLD IN SUCH WONDERFUL WAYS AND IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE STORY IS ONLY JUST TRULY BEGINNING

Nicolas Dixon is a Leeds born abstract artist who is finding himself in high demand of late and the floodgates don’t look like they are about to close anytime soon. In nod to his growing international status, Marie Claire USA wrote that “Nicolas Dixon is THE UK abstract artist making ripples in UK”, while VICE compared the unique energy in his work to the influential Keith Haring.

From an art hotel to prestigious restaurants at the forefront of gastro-cuisine such as Arras in York and Matt Healy X The Foundry in Leeds lead by the award-winning Masterchef finalist, commissions have come in a variety of places. Nicolas’ contemporary style can also be found in murals at iconic and historic spaces around Leeds: a Grade II listed Georgian orangery, in Europe’s largest and oldest indoor market Kirkgate, and the premier Trinity Shopping Centre amongst others.

As someone with a long-standing passion for house music and DJ culture, Nick has been adopted by the scene as one of its favourite artists. To that end he has reworked the world renowned Pacha cherries to celebrate 40 years, painted murals in cult UK clubs, and was also enlisted by multi award-winning producer and DJ Eats Everything as Artistic Director for his Edible Records imprint.

Never confined and restricted to one scene or location, private commissions have seen Nicolas travel to Antwerp to paint a life-size giraffe sculpture, and to Sydney to do the same to a life-size Kangaroo. Nicolas has exhibited publicly at shows such as the London Westbank Gozo and continues to be in high demand.

Stepping into the product design field, Nicolas has worked with SEVEN FEET APART to create the DX-7 Custom Edition Sneaker. Each pair was painted by hand in discussion with the customer who commissioned them. These bespoke sneakers pathed the way for a screen-printed version - the DX-7 Limited Edition.

Nicolas has also given over plenty of his time to charitable endeavours. He was commissioned by Disney to custom paint a BB-8 droid to celebrate the new Stars Wars movie, The Force Awakens. The project was to raise money for the Great Ormond Street hospice at a star-studded charity auction that saw Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, Simon Pegg and Jonathan Ross all paint their own versions. Nicolas’ original piece resides at an art collection in New York.

'Street To Street' is another a project close to Nicolas’ heart. It will see him travel to Tanzania along with other internationally renowned artists to paint a school in a deeply deprived area. Coordinated by the Last Night A DJ charity which is creating art to support communities facing social exclusion and trauma, each artist will create an original piece of artwork to be sold at auction and to raise funds for the cause.

Nicolas Dixon is a versatile artist whose unique vision can bring anything to life. His standout work is perfectly scalable, from the feature wall in a restaurant to the entrance of a huge shopping centre, a pair of bespoke trainers to life-size sculptures, record labels and nightclubs via handcrafted, privately commissioned furniture and made-to-order tables and, of course, his sought-after canvases. Nicolas Dixon is truly one of the UK’s most recognisable abstract artists.

ARTISTIC ETHOS & VALUES

NICOLAS DIXON STRIVES TO CONNECT AND INCLUDE, RATHER THAN ALIENATE AND EXCLUDE.

Nicolas’ work is the embodiment of spiritual depth and meaning, rejecting scientific materialism, nihilism and spiritual bankruptcy.

His art integrates body and soul and recognises enduring and underlying principles which have sustained wisdom and insight throughout humanity’s history.

As a spiritual artist, Nicolas means to address unflinchingly his projections, good and bad, the attractive and the grotesque, his strengths as well as his delusions, in order for us to know ourselves and thereby our true relationship with others and our connection to the divine.

He believes spirituality is humanity’s quest to understand itself and finds its symbology through the clarity and integrity of its artists.
